The Great Wall of China: 4 weeks to go!

I was just saying to Gordon, ‘it would be great to have a blog so that I could keep everyone up to date with my adventures in China’. Well, what do you know? I already had one…..I just forgot it was there for the last two years🤦‍♀️

So, almost exactly one year ago, a Facebook post by Strathcarron Hospice led me to where I am now: On the brink of taking my longest flight ever to a side of the world I didn’t think I’d ever see. To say it’s been a quick year is an

understatement!

As is typical of me, I’m super organised to begin with. Boots were bought in January and subsequently ignored for six months. I’ll partly blame the Aberdeen Kiltwalk for that as I’m more comfortable (on long distances) in trainers and being in June, the focus was on those 18 miles. Anyway, the boots have been pretty much welded to my feet for the last couple of weeks and I’m not crippled…..yet.

What I’d let myself in for became a bit more real when I re-read the required kit list and spent a small fortune in a local high street shop. Reality definitely hit when I then considered that the small fortune would be attached to my back for the five days of trekking. Sunblock, sunglasses, warm hat and gloves are just some of the items….makes me think the weather in Beijing could be similar to a summers day in Scotland🤔 Still not worked out what we’ll be needing a head torch for though….aside from the obvious!

Then there’s the non essential items, snacks being one. The various accommodations which are provided are said to be fairly basic and to bring snacks for evenings and spreads for toast. If anyone has any suggestions of travel appropriate, space saving tasty treats, be sure to let me know!

The serious countdown begins now!
